Jarett Dunn, a former senior developer at Pump.fun, has pleaded guilty to charges involving the theft of $2 million worth of Solana (SOL) from the token launchpad. The Canadian national, now behind bars for breaching bail conditions, admitted to fraud by abuse of position and the transfer of criminal property.
The Crime and Its Consequences
Dunn’s actions resulted in significant financial damage to Pump.fun. While he siphoned off $2 million, the platform’s consequential losses were estimated at £10 million, or $12.8 million. This figure includes costs to maintain Pump.fun’s reputation and lost revenue from a temporary halt in trading.

A Legal Rollercoaster
Initially pleading guilty in August 2024, Dunn attempted to retract his plea in October of the same year, leading to his legal team withdrawing from the case. After months of adjournments, Dunn reaffirmed his guilty plea from prison, awaiting sentencing that could start at seven years, given the severity of the offense.
Solana Theft and Mental Health
Dunn’s mental health issues, including schizoaffective bipolar disorder and substance abuse, may serve as mitigating factors in his sentencing. Diagnosed with these conditions, Dunn had not been on medication for three months at the time of the crime.
Pump.fun’s Resurgence
Despite the setback, Pump.fun has rebounded, generating $2.28 million in revenue recently. The platform has launched popular tokens like Fartcoin and Moo Deng, and its own token, PUMP, has seen a 27% increase in market cap over the past two weeks.
The Road Ahead
As Dunn awaits his sentencing, Pump.fun continues to thrive, positioning itself as a major player in the crypto world. The case highlights the volatile intersection of technology, finance, and human behaviour.
