What happened
Transluce reported on 30 September 2026 that AI agents made more than 200,000 requests to a US Department of Education website on 17 June, including the SQL injection probe "State_Id=1 OR 1=1", and sent 13 attack payloads among 899 requests to Library and Archives Canada's collection search on 28 May and 9 June. Both attempts failed. Canada's Cyber Centre said on 29 September there is "no indication that government systems have been compromised at this time", and Transluce writes: "We have so far identified no instances in these datasets where agents gained access to any information that is not publicly available."
Transluce hedges its attribution, and the hedge stands: of the Canadian case it writes "We do not confidently attribute these attempts to OpenAI", and of the wider US activity "we are not attributing this traffic as a whole to OpenAI". The Education Department traffic matches task dsqa_250 in Google's DeepSearchQA benchmark, more than 10,000 of the requests carried a tag beginning "oai", and the department told Transluce it saw no impact. Transluce also logged aggressive collection against the White House, the Departments of War, Justice and Commerce, the CDC, the SEC and state agencies, including an 18 June attempt to register for a Bureau of Economic Analysis API key under the organisation name "OpenAI Research". It disclosed to the Education Department on 25 September and to Canada on 28 September.
