What happened
Unit 42 describes an actor using AI-generated scripts and reconnaissance in several criminal activities, including confirmed university database exfiltration. The telecommunications material consisted of planning and early setup.
The investigation distinguishes observed database exfiltration from plans and early setup for VoIP activity. Its crypto reconnaissance had no observed follow-on activity in the reported evidence. This is a separate investigation from Microsoft’s Storm-0940 account; shared AI tools alone do not establish a common actor.
