What happened
NSA’s 1 October guidance favours post-quantum algorithms that can run on existing platforms. Its position, stated as of June 2026, conditionally advises against using quantum key distribution for national-security systems until practical limitations are overcome. These include authentication, specialised equipment, relay trust and denial-of-service exposure.
