What happened
NEAR Intents halted services on 1 October after a flaw in the interaction between its smart contract and the Omni deposit and withdrawal infrastructure let an attacker take about $3.8m. On 2 October, the team reported that all the stolen funds had been returned.
General manager Alex Shevchenko confirmed the full return at 15:52 UTC on 2 October and said the investigation was stopping. NEAR co-founder Illia Polosukhin separately said the funds had been returned by 14:30 UTC. The tracker retains the original $3.8m gross theft; the remaining principal loss is zero on the team’s account. The operator had already patched the contract-side flaw and pledged compensation. That earlier pledge and the later recovery are separate events.
