Bitcoin trades about a third below its peak
Bitcoin is a digital currency whose payments are recorded on a shared network. New coins enter circulation through mining, with a maximum supply of 21 million. At 17:40 UTC on 28 October 2026, CoinGecko priced it at $80,586, with a market value of $1.62 trillion. That was about 36% below its $126,080 record of 6 October 2025.
Price, fund demand and network activity measure different things. A falling price shows that buyers and sellers have agreed a lower valuation. To understand the change, readers can compare investment flows, interest rates and the network’s usage rather than assign the whole move to one cause.

Strategy held 848,517 BTC on 25 October 2026, according to its 26 October filing. Its aggregate acquisition cost was $64.02bn, including fees and expenses. The filing records $204.9m spent repurchasing STRC preferred shares during 19–25 October, with the bitcoin balance unchanged for that period.
At the dated $80,586 market price above, those holdings were worth about $68.38bn. This values the coins alone. Shareholders also need to account for the company’s debts, preferred shares, cash and operating business. The treasury-company guide explains those differences.
The Federal Reserve held rates on 28 October
The Federal Reserve held its federal funds target range at 3.75–4% on 28 October 2026. The vote was 10–2. Lisa Cook and Beth Hammack preferred a quarter-point increase. The decision followed September’s increase and is the latest completed meeting result.
Interest rates affect the return available on cash and government debt, and therefore the choices facing investors in Bitcoin. The figures to follow are the next rate decision, completed ETF trading days and companies’ filed purchases or sales. Each has a dated public record; none determines the next Bitcoin price on its own.
