MemeCore (M) is the native token of an EVM-compatible layer-1 blockchain designed for meme coin communities, secured by a staking model the project calls Proof of Meme.

What it is

MemeCore (M) is the native token of a blockchain that takes meme coins seriously. The project describes itself as “the first Layer 1 blockchain, built for Meme 2.0”, meaning a chain where meme tokens are treated as durable community economies rather than throwaway jokes. It is Ethereum-compatible, so ordinary wallets and smart contracts work on it, and its mainnet produced its first block on 8 January 2025, a date verifiable from the chain’s own records. The memorable twist is the consensus branding: where other chains have Proof of Work or Proof of Stake, MemeCore’s security model is called Proof of Meme.

How it works

Underneath the branding, MemeCore is a staking chain with an unusual addition. Validators stake M to earn the right to produce blocks, and a small active set of top-ranked validators creates blocks and collects rewards. The Proof of Meme layer lets communities stake their own meme tokens, issued on the chain as MRC-20 tokens, by delegating them to validators, earning rewards in both M and the participating meme tokens. M itself pays for transactions, with a portion of gas fees eligible for burning, secures the network through staking, and carries governance rights. Five billion tokens existed at launch and the rest of the 10 billion maximum is mined gradually through block rewards.

The story so far

MemeCore’s rise was one of the stranger stories of 2025. Meme coins have historically lived on general-purpose chains such as Ethereum and Solana; MemeCore inverted that by building the chain around the meme communities themselves, with social features, creator rewards and a vault system for long-term engagement described in its documentation. The M token climbed into the top 50 by market value within its first year, an unusually fast ascent for a new layer-1, and the site credits the project to Anteater Labs, a Singapore-registered company. Sceptics note that activity on meme-centred platforms tends to follow attention cycles, which cuts both ways.

Where it stands

As of late July 2026 M ranks about 49th among cryptocurrencies by market value, at roughly $1.6bn, trading near $1.21 according to CoinGecko, with about 1.3 billion tokens circulating out of the 10 billion maximum. The things to watch are whether meme projects keep launching and staking on the chain, since the whole design depends on that participation, the burn rate of gas fees against ongoing block reward issuance, and how the token behaves when meme sentiment cools. A chain purpose-built for the most volatile corner of crypto carries that volatility in its own token, and nothing here is investment advice.
