World Liberty Financial (WLFI) is the governance token of a DeFi platform whose own documents disclose a large financial interest held by the family of US president Donald Trump.

What it is

World Liberty Financial (WLFI) is the governance token of a decentralised finance platform that describes itself as the place “where DeFi meets TradFi”. The project was incorporated in September 2024 and offers a lending and borrowing market, a stablecoin called USD1 and a payments toolkit for AI agents. WLFI is best known for who stands behind it: the project’s own documents disclose that an entity affiliated with Donald J. Trump and his family holds a large financial interest. Because Mr Trump has been the sitting US president since January 2025, that disclosure makes WLFI one of the most closely scrutinised tokens in the market.

How it works

According to the official documentation, governance is WLFI’s sole purpose. Holders propose, discuss and vote on the direction of the platform; the token carries no claim on revenue or reserves. Total supply is fixed at 100 billion, of which about 31.8 billion circulate as of July 2026. The token trades on Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain and Solana. USD1, the platform’s stablecoin, is a separate token backed by cash, US government money market funds and cash equivalents, with reserves held and the token issued by BitGo Trust Company. USD1 runs on eleven chains, including Ethereum, Solana and TRON.

The story so far

The token sale ran from October 2024 to March 2025, and WLFI was initially non-transferable. A holder vote in July 2025 approved partial transferability, and 20 per cent of early purchasers’ tokens unlocked on 1 September 2025, when trading began. On the political connection, the documentation states the facts plainly: DT Marks DEFI LLC, affiliated with Donald J. Trump and family members, owns about 38 per cent of the equity of WLF Holdco LLC, was allocated 22.5 billion WLFI, and is entitled to 75 per cent of token sale proceeds after reserves. The same documents state that no Trump family member or Trump Organization employee serves as an officer, director or employee of the company. This page keeps to what the project itself publishes.

Where it stands

As of late July 2026 WLFI ranks about 42nd among cryptocurrencies by market value, at roughly $1.8bn, with the token trading near $0.057 according to CoinGecko. The things to watch are the growth of USD1, which competes in the crowded dollar stablecoin market, the pace of further token unlocks from the fixed 100 billion supply, and the continuing debate in Washington over the overlap between the presidency and the family’s disclosed stake. Nothing here is a recommendation; with WLFI more than most tokens, readers should weigh the governance disclosures as carefully as the market figures.
