Unitree's Shanghai Float Was Asked For 8,000 Times The Stock On Offer
Unitree priced 40.45 million shares at 150.80 yuan on 6 August, raising about 6.1 billion yuan at a valuation near 9 billion dollars. The retail tranche was oversubscribed more than 8,000 times.

Unitree priced its Shanghai listing at 150.80 yuan a share on 6 August, selling 40.45 million new shares for close to 6.1 billion yuan, about $904m. The shares are roughly a tenth of the enlarged company, which puts the whole business at around 61 billion yuan, near $9bn. Subscriptions opened on 10 August and the retail tranche came back more than 8,000 times covered, the heaviest demand a technology company has drawn on the STAR Market.
The stock code is 688836. Trading is expected to begin in the week from 17 August, and the exchange has not yet fixed the day.
The price moved a long way in ten weeks
The deal that reached the market is materially bigger than the one filed. When the Shanghai Stock Exchange scheduled its review at the end of May, the plan on the table raised more than 4.2 billion yuan and the valuation being discussed was around $6.2bn. What priced on 6 August raises 6.1 billion yuan at roughly $9bn.
| Stage | Date | What was on record |
|---|---|---|
| Filing accepted | 20 March 2026 | Application lodged with the STAR Market |
| Listing review | 1 June 2026 | Approved, 73 days after acceptance |
| Price set | 6 August 2026 | 150.80 yuan, about 6.1 billion yuan raised |
| Subscriptions | 10 August 2026 | Retail more than 8,000 times covered |
Seventy-three days from acceptance to approval is fast by the STAR Market’s own standards, and it is the point of the venue: the board exists to move hard-technology companies to market quickly.
What does 8,000 times oversubscribed actually mean?
It means orders arrived for more than 8,000 times the shares set aside for retail buyers, so the allocation is decided by lottery and almost everyone who applied gets nothing. It is a measure of demand at a fixed price, not of value: the price was already set on 6 August, so the multiple could not push it up. What a number that size does tell you is that the retail bid was not rationed by price at all, which usually shows up on the first day of trading instead.
What is Unitree selling?
Quadrupeds and humanoid robots, plus the actuators and motors underneath them, and it is unusual among humanoid makers in that the machines sell in volume today. The company reported revenue of 1.699 billion yuan for 2025, around $252m, with a gross margin of 60.13 per cent on its core lines and net profit excluding exceptional items of 590 million yuan, about $87m. Those are the accounts of a components and robotics business with real unit economics, not a research programme.
The distinction is worth holding on to when the listing gets described as the market’s first bet on embodied AI. Most of the field is pre-revenue. Unitree shipped more than 5,500 humanoid robots in 2025, more than any other maker, at prices that start well below Western rivals, and it has been selling quadrupeds since long before humanoids became the story.
The first of its kind on the mainland
No pure humanoid robot maker has listed on a Chinese exchange before. That is the part of this with consequences beyond one share sale: it creates a public comparable, a daily price that every private robotics company in China and abroad will be valued against, and a set of audited disclosures in a sector that has largely been valued on demonstrations.
It also gives Chinese retail investors a direct route into a sector that has so far been reachable only through funds and component suppliers, which is a fair part of why the book came back 8,000 times covered. The scarcity is real: one listed name, ten per cent of it free, and a national policy push behind the industry. Whether the price that opens on the first day has anything to do with 1.699 billion yuan of revenue is the question the week from 17 August answers.
